This chubby kokeshi was made by Sadao Kishi (1932-1998).
Her title is 萌黄 which means “Sprouts”. Her hair reminds me of the 60’s hairstyles being very rounded and has quite some volume. Her kimono is decorated with plum flowers and she has her arms crossed.
Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards including the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.
In very good condition with signs of age and use.
