This vintage creative kokeshi was made & signed by award winner master Hideo Ishihara (1929-1999). Her title is 町娘 (Machimusume) which means “Town Girl” (literally grass pillow). Her body is decorated with horizontal lines in orange and black with unpainted parts in natural wood color.

Master Hideo Ishihara (1929-1999) started as a traditional Naruko kokeshi artist. Feeling limited under the traditional design he switched to creative kokeshi and became one of the most influential and prominent artists of his time. He has won over 60 awards including the prestigious prime minister award.

In good condition with signs of age and use. Has a small rub on the top of the hair.
