Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Hideo Ishihara – Donko (16.5cm/6.5 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi was made & signed by award winner master Hideo Ishihara (1929-1999). She’s titled “Donko” and her body is and hair feature a woodworking technique called birikanna in which the artisan creates small carvings in circles by attaching a thin, soft blade tot he lathe as it rotates.

Master Hideo Ishihara (1929-1999) started as a traditional Naruko kokeshi artist. Feeling limited under the traditional design he switched to creative kokeshi and became one of the most influential and prominent artists of his time. He has won over 60 awards including the prestigious prime minister award.

In great condition with minor signs of age and use.
