Vintage creative kokeshi by Tsujita Ryozo (1923-). She’s titled 草笛 (Kusabue) which means “Reed Pipe”. It refers to traditional pastime of children that make a whistle from a blade of grass or a leaf.

This kokeshi was made by the multiple award winner master Tsujita Ryozo who was born in 1923 in Odawara, Kanagawa prefecture. During his army service in World War 2 he was captured and held in labor camp in Siberia. After his release in 1950 and return to Japan he started making kokeshi dollf (1959). He has won many awards for his beautiful kokeshi dolls.

In great condition with signs of age and use.
