Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Kato Masami – Usubi (28cm/11 inches)

This lovely kokeshi doll was made and signed by master Kato Masami (1925~). She’s titled 薄日 (usubi) which means “Soft Light”. Her kimono is decorated with beautiful elegant flowers painted on a brown background.

Born in Naruko in Miyagi prefecture in 1925. Her husband who was a traditional kokeshi master taught her the art of kokeshi making. She has won numerous awards including the most prestigious Prime Minister Award.

In good condition with visible signs of age and use.
