This lovely kokeshi was made and signed by Yushi Kawase who was born Gunma prefecture in 1938. Her title is 麻の葉 (Asanoha) which is an auspicious traditional Japanese geometric pattern that resembles the shape of overlapping hemp leaves. It has been widely used in Japanese art, textiles, and architecture for centuries.

In Japanese culture, the hemp leaf pattern symbolizes growth, resilience, and strength due to the hemp plant’s ability to grow rapidly and robustly.

In mint condition, comes with the original box.
