This vintage bulky kokeshi doll was made & signed by Master Yoshio Ohtani (1936-). Her title is 田舎娘 (Inaka Musume) which means “Rural Girl” (or “A Girl from the Countryside”). It evokes a nostalgic feeling and scenery of a traditional life far away from the busy city in the countryside surrounded by nature. Her kimono is beautifully decorated with various traditional Japanese patterns such as Seigaiha (waves), kanoko dots (fawn-spot motif), Fireworks pattern and birds flying in the horizon.

Master Yoshio Ohtani was born in 1936. He started making Kokeshi dolls in 1968 and has won multiple awards for his beautiful dolls. He has won the minister of agriculture award in 1978 and minister of interior award in 1982 as well as many other awards along the years.

In great condition with signs of age and use. Please inspect all the pictures.
Comes in the original box with the original wooden sign.
