Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Kato Masami – Usubi (24.5cm/9.6 inches)

This lovely kokeshi doll was made and signed by master Kato Masami (1925~). She’s titled 薄日 (usubi) which means “Soft Light”. Her kimono is decorated with beautiful elegant flowers painted on a green background.

Born in Naruko in Miyagi prefecture in 1925. Her husband who was a traditional kokeshi master taught her the art of kokeshi making. She has won numerous awards including the most prestigious Prime Minister Award.

In very good condition.
