Vintage creative kokeshi made and signed by Takahashi Akinori from 1995. They are titled 七夕 (Tanabata) which is known as the “Star Festival”. It’s a Japanese holiday which takes place on the seventh day of July. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi. According to Japanese folklore, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. Their bodies are colored in blue and only the front of their kimono belt (obi) is shown. The kimono represents a starry night sky. Ashinori’s father, Hashime, also made the same doll.
