Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Sekiguchi Toa – Hidamari (12.5cm/4.9 inches)

This chubby vintage creative kokeshi doll made and signed by master Sekiguchi Toa (1942-). She’s titled ひだまり (Hidamari) which means “Sunny Spot” as in a spot that the sun rays hit directly and make it warm and comfortable to be in. Her hair is beautifully carved around and her red kimono is decorated with flower carvings.

Master Sekiguchi Toa was born in Shibukawa City, Gunma-ken. His brother, Toshio, also makes creative Kokeshi dolls. He won many awards including the Ministry of International Trade Industry Award in 1978. Since then he has won the Prime Minister’s Award, along with other respected awards.

In great condition with minor signs of age and use.
