Sato Suigai Vintage Orange Kokeshi Doll (22.5cm/8.8 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi doll was made and signed by Sato Suigai. She’s wearing a lovely orange kimono with purple sleeves and large flower decorations. Her hairstyle is designed in a similar way to the hair style that was popular during Heian period (794 to 1185 AD).

Made and signed by the multiple award winning, master Sato Suigai. He was born in 1920 in Gunma Prefecture which is home to many other famous creative kokeshi masters. He only began creative kokeshi at age 29 (1949). Suigai is actually not his real name, it’s a pseudonym taken from his teacher Mr. Suiun Komuro who taught him Japanese painting.

In good condition with visible marks and signs of age and use. Has one mark on the hair on the back. Please inspect all the pictures.
