Red Vintage Kokeshi by Sadao Kishi (29.5cm/11.6 inches)

This bulky vintage creative kokeshi was made and signed by Sadao Kishi (1932-1998). She’s covered in dark red with autumn leaf decorations.

Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards incluing the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.

In great condition with signs of age and use.
