Miyashita Hajime Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Mai (21cm/8.2 inches)

Vintage creative kokeshi doll by master Miyashita Hajime (1940-). Her title is 舞い (Mai) which means “Dance”. The angle that Miyashita san has made her body really conveys the beauty and sense of movement of traditional Japanese dance. Her blue kimono is decorated with a wave pattern and flowers in white and red.

Miyashita Hajime is a multiple award winner master who was born in 1940. The current Japanese emperor and empress are fans of him and used to collect his dolls. In 2006 he retired after his kokeshi shop burnt down in a fire.

In great condition with signs of age and use. Comes with the original box.
