Miyajima Muhitsu Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Plum Grove (20cm/7.8 inches)

This vintage Kokeshi doll was made & signed by Master Miyajima Muhitsu (1929~). She’s titled 梅林 (Bairin) which means “Plum Grove”. Plums in Japan are considered to be auspicious since they are the first to blossom after the cold winter.

Master Miyajma Muhitsu was born in 1929 in Yamagata prefecture. Surrounded by local traditional kokeshi artists he first trained and made traditional kokeshi though in 1950 started making he made the shift to creative kokeshi. A multiple award winner, Miyajima-san won the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award in 1973.

In great condition with signs of age and use.
