Kobayashi Inosuke Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Komori (33cm/13 inches)

This lovely vintage kokeshi doll by Kobayashi Inosuke depicts a mom carrying her baby. This type of creative kokeshi are called 子守 (Komori) meaning “Looking After a Baby” or “Taking Care of a Baby”. Her kimono is beautifully decorated using burnt wood that creates thick vertical stripes which curve along the body. Maybe Kobayashi san saw a mother walking with her baby and got the inspiration for this piece.
