Kobayashi Inosuke Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Komori (33cm/13 inches)

This lovely vintage kokeshi doll by Kobayashi Inosuke depicuts a mom carrying her baby. This type of creative kokeshi are called 子守 (Komori) meaning “Looking after a baby” or “Taking care of a baby”. Her kimono is beautifully decorated using burnt wood that creates thick vertical stripes which curve along the body. Maybe Kobayashi san saw a mother walking with her baby and got the inspiration for this piece.
