Kobayashi Inosuke Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Izayoi (36cm/14.1 inches)

This beautiful kokeshi doll was made and signed by Inosuke Kobayashi (1931-2000). Her title is 十六夜 (Izayoi) which refers to the moon on the sixteenth night of the lunar month, the night after the full moon. The word comes from the verb to hesitate or to linger. The idea is that after the full moon, the moon rises a little later each night, as if it is hesitating to appear. Her kimono is magnificently decorated in patterns of green, red and natural wood color.

Kobayashi Inosuke (1931-2000) was born in 1931 in Gunma prefecture and won multiple awards for his kokeshi dolls throughout his life, including winning the prestigious Prime Minister award in 1979. His dolls are usually tall and elegant featuring natural wood colors combined colorful kimonos.

In great condition with a couple of marks on the right side of her kimono. Please inspect all the pictures.
