This Japanese vintage creative kokeshi doll was made and signed by master Kazuo Takamizawa (1927~). Her title is 童女 (Doujo) which means “Little Girl”. Made of beautiful keyaki (zelkova) wood. Her kimono has an obi (kimono belt) with a gradient going from light blue to dark blue and abstract floral decorations on the sleeves. Her hair has an auspicious asanoha (hemp) pattern.
Kazuo Takamizawa was born in 1927 and started making kokeshi doll in his early 20’s. At the beginning he used very little color and starting from the 70’s he began giving his creations more color. He has won the prestigious prime minister award along other prizes for his works.
In great condition. The line in the back of the hair is part of the wood grain (not a crack). Comes in the original box.
