Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Kato Tatsuo – Wakuraba no Yukue (47cm/18.5 inches)

This one of a kind vintage kokeshi was made by master Kato Tatsuo (1940-) whose passion for kokeshi dolls making is perhaps second to none.

Her title is わくらばの行方 (“The Whereabouts of Blighted Leaves”) and she’s made of keyaki as can be seen by the splendid wood grain and color. Her smile serves as a reminder that even as some trees shed their leaves spring is just around the corner and it brings new life with it.
