Vintage creative kokeshi by the two-times Prime minster award winner master Kuribayashi Issetsu (1926-2011).
Hatsukari (初雁) refers to the first geese that come from the north in the fall on their way to the warmer south. Master Kuribayashi explained the inspiration for the doll in the sounds of geese that echo in the distance, who’s origin and destination are both a mystery to us. While he tries to follow them he forgets himself for a while and finds himself alone in silence as the row of geese in the sky become smaller and smaller and eventually disappear behind a cloud.
