Exclusive Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Issetsu Kuribayashi – Butterfly (20cm/7.8 inches)

Exclusive Vintage kokeshi by the two-times Prime minster award winner master Kuribayashi Issetsu (1926-2011). Mastery Kuribayashi chose a butterfly as a motif for this doll and she has one carved at the center. The surrounding patterns are inspired by the wings of butterflies. Her hair is beautifully carved and flows naturally down along her body.

Master Kuribayashi Issetsu was born in Yonezawa City in Yamagata prefecture in 1926. He’s considered one of the founding fathers of creative kokeshi dolls and he has won almost every possible award for his beautiful creations. He began his career in 1955 and he is also featured in the Nuremberg Toy Museum in Germany alongside master Watanabe Masao.

In very good condition with signs of age and use.
