This beautiful and colorful vintage creative kokeshi was made & signed by master Ishimura.
She is titled 熨斗寿 (Noshiju) which, to put in simple words, means “Good Fortune”. Noshi is a traditional decorative element made of folded paper and a strip of dried abalone. Which was often attached to gifts in Japan as a symbol of good fortune and respect. Ju can mean “Longevity” or “Celebration”. She’s wearing a dark kimono with noshi strips in yellow, green, dark blue and black.
In great condition with minor signs of age and use.
