This beautiful kokeshi doll was made by the talented and multiple award winner kokeshi artist Yahagi Ichiko (1952-).
Her title is 折鶴 (Oridzuru) which means “Origami Crane”. Her kimono features origami (Japanese paper folding) cranes in various colors. Cranes in Japan are considered to be symbols of longevity and peace. There’s a local legend that says that if we fold 1,000 origami cranes our wish will come true.

Ichiko Yahagi was born in Ishikawa prefecture, Kaga city in 1952. She has won many prizes for her unique and beautiful kokeshi dolls and also taught the art of kokeshi making to active artists.
In mint condition. Comes with a black wooden base and the original box.
