Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Hideo Ishihara – Hana Otome (31cm/12.2 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi doll was made & signed by Hideo Ishihara (1925-1999). He was one of the most unique creative kokeshi artists, famous for his elaborate and even somewhat psychedelic patterns and color combinations. This doll by Ishihara san is titled 花乙女 (Hana Otome) which means “Flower Maiden”. Her red hair matches her red kimono which has various shapes and patterns to it.

Master Hideo Ishihara (1929-1999) started as a traditional Naruko kokeshi artist. Feeling limited under the traditional design he switched to creative kokeshi and became one of the most influential and prominent artists of his time. He has won over 60 awards including the prestigious prime minister award.

In very good condition with visible signs of age and use. Comes in the original box. Has a small paint peel on the side of the neck.
