Kokeshi doll vintage creative by master Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) depicting a 5 years old boy during Shichi-Go-San (七五三, “Seven-Five-Three”) is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for three- and seven-year-old girls, five-year-old and sometimes three-year-old boys, held annually on November 15 to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children.
Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) is perhaps the most renowned kokeshi master. He’s the only artisan who has ever been certified by the Japanese government as “master of creative kokeshi”. He has a museum in his birth city of Shibukawa in Gunma prefecture and it’s being managed and maintained by his daughter Izumi who is a kokeshi artists in her own right. He has won the prestigious prime minister award three times for his beautiful and unique kokeshi designs.
In mint condition, comes with the original box and wooden sign.
