Aoki Ryoka Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Snow Child (21cm/8.2 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi doll was made and signed by the multiple award winning female master Aoki Ryoka (1931-). Her title is 雪童 (Yukiwarabe) which means “Snow Child”. She’s covered in a lovely natural wood colored blanket with only her head peeking out of it with a bit of her carved hair. This type of carving isn’t very common today and requires tremendous time and precision.

Aoki Ryoka was born in 1931 in Shikishima village, Gunma prefecture. She has won multiple awards for her beautiful kokeshi dolls including the prestigious prime minister award. She also received the Japanese Yellow Ribbon Medal of Honor for her diligence, perseverance and achieving excellence in her craft.

In great condition. Comes with the original wooden sign (not shown in the pictures).
