Kokeshi doll vintage creative by master Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018). Her title is 矢羽根 (Yanane) which means “Arrow Feathers” and that’s what her beautiful kimono pattern features. In addition to the kimono, her hair is decorated with a cute purple ribbon and she’s wearing a graduation hakama (skirt-like garment that is worn over a kimono). The traditional Japanese arrow feathers patter carries auspicious meanings such as protection from evil, protection, and encouraging straight progress. It is often used as a kimono pattern and for hakama.

Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) is perhaps the most renowned kokeshi master. He’s the only artisan who has ever been certified by the Japanese government as “master of creative kokeshi”. He has a museum in his birth city of Shibukawa in Gunma prefecture and it’s being managed and maintained by his daughter Izumi who is a kokeshi artists in her own right. He has won the prestigious prime minister award three times for his beautiful and unique kokeshi designs.

In great condition condition with minor signs of age and use, comes with the original wooden sign.
