Creative Kokeshi Doll by Sekiguchi Sansaku Kokeshi – Three (17.5cm/6.9 inches)

Kokeshi doll vintage creative by master Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) depicting a 3 years old girl during Shichi-Go-San (七五三, “Seven-Five-Three”) is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for 3 and 7 year old girls, 5 year old boys, held annually on November 15 to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children.

Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) is perhaps the most renowned kokeshi master. He’s the only artisan who has ever been certified by the Japanese government as “master of creative kokeshi”. He has a museum in his birth city of Shibukawa in Gunma prefecture and it’s being managed and maintained by his daughter Izumi who is a kokeshi artists in her own right. He has won the prestigious prime minister award three times for his beautiful and unique kokeshi designs.
