This vintage kokeshi is titled 春を待つ (Haru o matsu) which can be translate to “Waiting For Spring”. Made & signed by Master Yoshio Ohtani (1936-). Her kimono is decorate with beautiful plum flowers. In Japan plum is the first to blossom after the cold winter and for that reason it’s considered to be a symbol of perseverance.
Master Yoshio Ohtani was born in 1936. He started making Kokeshi dolls in 1968 and has won multiple awards for his beautiful dolls. He has won the minister of agriculture award in 1978 and minister of interior award in 1982 as well as many other awards along the years.
In great condition with signs of age and use. Comes with the original box and wooden name plate.
