This big vintage kokeshi doll was made and signed by master Yamanaka Sanpei (1926-2012). Her title is “Warashi” (わらし) which means “child” and she has beautifully carved hair with a topknot decorated by a light wood color hair tie. Her body and face show wonderful wood grain and her expression is very child-like being full of wonder.

Yamanaka Sanpei has won over 20 awards for his kokeshi dolls including the prestigious “Prime Minister Award” in 1979. Sanpei’s inspiration for kokeshi doll designs often come from children.

In near-mint condition with minor signs of age and use. Comes in its original box with its wooden sign.
