Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Yamanaka Sanpei (24.5cm/9.6 inches)

This vintage kokeshi doll was made and signed by master Yamanaka Sanpei (1926-) who won over 20 awards for his kokeshi dolls including the prestigious “Prime Minister Award” in 1979. Sanpei’s inspiration for kokeshi doll designs often come from children.

She’s made of beautiful, warm tone keyaki (zelkova) wood. Her body is decorated with abstract flower carvings. The darker lines are natural and not damage.
