Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Yamanaka Sanpei “Hana Akari” (31cm/12.2 inches)

This huge vintage kokeshi was made and signed by master Yamanaka Sanpei (1926-2012). Her title is “Hana Akari” (花あかり) which means “The Brilliance of Cherry Blossoms” since when they are in full blossom they almost seem to illuminating their surroundings at night.

Yamanaka Sanpei has won over 20 awards for his kokeshi dolls including the prestigious “Prime Minister Award” in 1979. Sanpei’s inspiration for kokeshi doll designs often come from children.

In near-mint condition. Comes with the original box.
