Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Tsujita Ryozo – Akebono (20cm/7.8 inches)

This kokeshi was made and signed by the multiple award winner master Tsujita Ryozo who was born in 1923 in Odawara, Kanagawa prefecture. Her title is Akebono (あけぼの) which means “dawn”.

During his army service in World War 2 he was captured and held in labor camp in Siberia. After his release in 1950 and return to Japan he started making kokeshi dollf (1959). He has won many awards for his beautiful kokeshi dolls.
