Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Sekiguchi Sansaku (17cm/6.7 inches)

This chubby kokeshi doll was made and signed by Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018).

She’s wearing a simple red garment and have a floral hat on top of her hair. She has her hands crossed with a very kind look on her eyes.

Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018) is perhaps the most renowned kokeshi master. He’s the only artisan who has ever been certified by the Japanese government as “master of creative kokeshi”. He has a museum in his birth city of Shibukawa in Gunma prefecture and it’s being managed and maintained by his daughter Izumi who is a kokeshi artists in her own right. He has won the prestigious prime minister award three times for his beautiful and unique kokeshi designs.

In good condition with signs of age and use. The back of the hair has a small part where the color is black.
