This unique kokeshi doll was made by Katase Kaihei (1922-2013).
Her title is Hanano (花野) which means “A Field Full of Flowers” and her body beautifully depicts a red, orange and yellow abstract pattern.
Katase Kaihei was born in Hakone, Kanagawa prefecture in 1922 and that’s also where he studio used to be. He has won the prestigious prime minister award in 1954 and his dolls are often characterized by having curvy and flowing hair. Besides the prime minister’s award he has also won numerous other awards and decorations for his works and outstanding skills.
In great condition, comes with the original wooden box.
