Vintage Creative Kokeshi Doll by Sato Suigai – Tatazumi (45cm/17.7 inches)

This stunning vintage creative kokeshi is made of keyaki (zelkova tree) and her natural wood color kimono has beautiful blossoming flowers carved and drawn on it. Her title is Tatazumi (たたずみ) which can be translated to “Standing Still” or “Lingering”.

Made and signed by the multiple award winning, master Sato Suigai. He was born in 1920 in Gunma Prefecture which is home to many other famous creative kokeshi masters. He only began creative kokeshi at age 29 (1949). Suigai is actually not his real name, it’s a pseudonym taken from his teacher Mr. Suiun Komuro who taught him Japanese painting.

In near-minut condition. Comes in the original box with its wooden sign.
