Tall Shido Shozan Vintage Creative Kokeshi Doll – Girl (48cm/18.9 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi doll was made & signed by the award winning master Shido Shozan (1932-1995). The title of this work is 少女 (Shoujo) which means “Girl”. She’s made of two types of wood – dark enju (body) and keyaki (face). Her body has a birikanna (tiny cuts in the wood as it turns on the lathe) pattern.

Master Shido Shozan was born in Oita prefecture in 1932. He’s known for his delicate and subtle designs which emphasize the wood tone and grain. His dolls often have a simple facial features and his dolls are very popular and sought after among collectors. He has won many awards as well as the most prestigious prime minister award.

In decent condition with visible signs of age and use. This doll has a long crack in the back. Please inspect all the pictures before placing an order.
