This vintage kokeshi doll was made by the award winning master Shido Shozan (1932-1995). Her titled is 雪国の童 (Yukiguni no Warabe) which means “A Child From a Snowy Land”, yukiguni specifically refers to snowy regions in Japan. She’s wearing a mino (蓑) which is an old traditional Japanese raincoat made out of straw that people used to wear to protect themselves from rain and snow (thanks to straw being water repellent).

Born in Oita prefecture in 1932. He’s known for his delicate and subtle designs which emphasize the wood tone and grain. His dolls often have a simple facial features and his dolls are very popular and sought after among collectors. He has won many awards as well as the most prestigious prime minister award.

In great condition. Comes in the original box.
