Set of 3 Nakanosawa Kokeshi Dolls by Seya Juji (19.5cm/7.6 inches)

This set of 3 Nakanosawa kokeshi dolls was made and signed by Seya Juji (1924-2004).

Nakanosawa dolls feature startled and surprised eyes that range from pink to lush red. Many of them feature flowers, most commonly red peony and sakura (cherry).

Born in 1924 in Koriyama city, Fukushima prefecture. After world war 2 he returned to Japan and worked in agriculture together with his father. Towards the end of the 1950’s he started making kokeshi dolls under the instruction of Iwamoto Yoshizo and about a decate later he settled in Inawashiro (near Nakanosawa onsen) and crafted kokeshi dolls at his home workshop until he passed away in 2004.
