Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Sekiguchi Toa – Ume Dayori (17.5cm/6.9 inches)

This chubby vintage creative kokeshi doll made and signed by master Sekiguchi Toa (1942-). Her title is 梅だより (Umedayori) which can be translated to “Plum News”, as in someone giving the news about the plum blossom in Spring.

Master Sekiguchi Toa was born in Shibukawa City, Gunma-ken. His brother, Toshio, also makes creative Kokeshi dolls. He won many awards including the Ministry of International Trade Industry Award in 1978. Since then he has won the Prime Minister’s Award, along with other respected awards.

In good condition with visible marks of age and use.
