This chubby kokeshi was made by Sadao Kishi (1932-1998).
Her title is 野ばら (Nobara) which means “Wild Rose”. Her kimono is decorated with wild roses in yellow and red and she has a very cute and innocent expression on her face.
Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards including the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.
In great condition with minor signs of age and use. Comes with the original box and wooden sign.
