This vintage kokeshi doll was made and signed by the award winning master Sadao Kishi (1932-1998). Her title is しろい (Shiori) which is a Japanese name given to girls. She’s wearing a kimono with flower decorations. Her dark brown obi is kept loose and her hair is also decorated with the same flower as the kimono. Her hair has a top bun which adds a lot of style to her.

Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards including the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.

In great condition with signs of age and use. Comes with the original box and original wooden sign.
