Sadao Kishi Vintage Creative Kokeshi – Fuga (40cm/15.7 inches)

This vintage kokeshi doll was made and signed by the award winning master Sadao Kishi (1932-1998). Her title is 風雅 (Fuga) which means “Elegance” and “Refinement”. She’s wearing a kimono with beautiful flowers in black and bright wood color, as well as a haori in darker wooden color. Her obi features a kumikiko pattern which is considered to be auspicious.

Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards incluing the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.

In great condition with signs of age and use. Comes with a wooden base and the original wooden sign.
