Miyajima Muhitsu Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Sui (24cm/9.4 inches)

This vintage Kokeshi doll was made & signed by Master Miyajima Muhitsu (1929~). She’s titled 翆 (Sui) which on it’s own usually doesn’t hold much meaning in Japanese, but it is related to Jade – a popular gemstone which is very popular in East Asia and has a green color. This doll also features green along the natural beautiful wood grain.

Master Miyajma Muhitsu was born in 1929 in Yamagata prefecture. Surrounded by local traditional kokeshi artists he first trained and made traditional kokeshi though in 1950 started making he made the shift to creative kokeshi. A multiple award winner, Miyajima-san won the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award in 1973.

In great condition with minor signs of age and use. Comes in the original box.
