This amazing pair vintage kokeshi dolls were made by the talented, award winning master Chiyomatsu Kano who was born in 1935 in Gunma prefecture.
They are titled 想 (Omoi) which means “Thoughts” (can also mean “Feelings”). Made of beautiful keyaki with a golden hue, they feature kimonos made by burning the wood in a square pattern around flowers carved on the dolls. The tall one has a hint of yellow in her kimono collar while the right one has a green kimono collar.
Kano Chiyomatsu began making kokeshi dolls in 1953, one of the most decorated and prized masters in Japan. He already passed away though the exact year is unknown. He has won the prestigious prime minister award twice and many other awards for his beautiful kokeshi dolls.
