Kano Chiyomatsu Vintage Kokeshi Doll – Thoughts About Spring (22cm/8.6 inches)

This vintage kokeshi doll was made & signed by the award winning master Kano Chiyomatsu (1935-) titled Shunsou (春想) which means “Thoughts About Spring”. Her red kimono is decorated with beautiful carved plum flowers. Plums are considered to be auspicious in Japan since they blossom first after the winter, hence they symbolize perseverance and hope.

Kano Chiyomatsu began making kokeshi dolls in 1953, one of the most decorated and prized masters in Japan. He already passed away though the exact year is unknown. He has won the prestigious prime minister award twice (!).

In great condition with minor signs of age and use.
