Vintage Kokeshi Doll by Issetsu Kuribayashi – Sound Of The Reed (20.5cm/8 inches)

This vintage creative kokeshi was made by the two-times Prime minster award winner master Kuribayashi Issetsu (1926-2011). Her title is おさの音 (Osa No Oto) which means “The Sound Of The Reed”. She’s wearing a red and black kimono. A very unique piece by Kuribayashi Issetsu combining wood and fabric.

Master Kuribayashi Issetsu was born in Yonezawa City in Yamagata prefecture in 1926. He’s considered one of the founding fathers of creative kokeshi dolls and he has won almost every possible award for his beautiful creations. He began his career in 1955 and he is also featured in the Nuremberg Toy Museum in Germany alongside master Watanabe Masao.

In very good condition with signs of age and use. Comes with the original box.
