This vintage creative kokeshi doll was made & signed by the late master Kobayashi Inosuke (1931-2000). Her title is 幼なじみ (Osananajimi) which means “Childhood Friend”. This title is full of nostalgia and innocence, especially when looking at the doll itself with the kind smile on her face. It’s a wonderful work by Inosuke san and one of his less common dolls. Her light kimono has an auspicious asanoha (hemp) pattern and it is contrasted beautifully with the black obi (kimono belt) and a purple sodenashi haori (a sleeveless jacket that is worn on top of the kimono).
He was born in 1931 in Gunma prefecture and won multiple awards for his kokeshi dolls throughout his life, including winning the prestigious Prime Minister award in 1979. His dolls are usually tall and elegant featuring natural wood colors combined colorful kimonos.
