This creative kokeshi doll was made and signed by Ichiko Yahagi (1952-). Her title is 千鶴 (Chizuru) which is both a girl’s name and also means “One Thousand Cranes”. In Japanese culture, Cranes symbolize longevity and peace. There’s a tradition that by folding 1000 paper origami cranes a wish will come true. Her stunning kimono features origami cranes in dark turquoise, flowers in orange, yellow and red, as well as a kanoko dotted pattern. Her stunning obi is carved with an asanoha pattern.
Ichiko Yahagi was born in Ishikawa prefecture, Kaga city in 1952. She has won many prizes for her unique and beautiful kokeshi dolls and also taught the art of kokeshi making to active artists.
In mint condition. Comes with a black wooden base and the original box.
