Exclusive Vintage Kokeshi by Sadao Kishi (44cm/17.3 inches)

One of a kind vintage creative kokeshi by Sadao Kishi (1932-1998). Her kimono is decorated with delicate and intricate flower carvings and a crimson red kimono obi (belt). Her hair is fabulously carved showing Sadao Kishi’s amazing skill and dedication. The hair is decorated with a floral hair band in the same color as the obi.

Born in Gunma prefecture in 1932. His creative kokeshi dolls received various awards incluing the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI). He is credited with being one of the major influences of the ‘Creative Kokeshi Movement’, gaining recognition for the dolls as a popular and valid art form.

In great condition with one mark on the back hair and other minor signs of age and use.
