This lovely kokeshi was made and signed by the multiple award winning female master Aoki Ryoka (1931-). She’s titled あじさい (Ajisai) which means hydrangea flowers. They blossom in Japan in June during the rainy season and attract many locals and tourists alike.
Aoki Ryoka was born in 1931 in Shikishima village, Gunma prefecture. She has won multiple awards for her beautiful kokeshi dolls including the prestigious prime minister award. She also received the Japanese Yellow Ribbon Medal of Honor for her diligence, perseverance and achieving excellence in her craft. She is still active today at the age of 91(!).
In great condition with signs of age and use. Comes with the original box. The doll has a dedication written on her back.
